Waste Free Oceans (WFO) is excited to share the latest edition of our Q4 2024 Newsletter, highlighting key milestones, impactful clean-ups, and major global events that shaped our mission over the past three months. From large-scale waste collection efforts to groundbreaking partnerships and research, this report underscores our continued commitment to a cleaner, healthier planet.


Key Highlights from Q4 2024:


  • Feza River Barrier Success – Our ongoing initiative in Tanzania captured an astonishing 1,021 tons of waste from September to December, reinforcing the urgent need for waste interception solutions in heavily polluted waterways.

  • Global Clean-Ups – WFO teams led clean-up efforts in Burgas Bay, Bulgaria, and Equatorial Guinea, collecting thousands of kilograms of plastic waste while engaging local communities in sustainable practices.

  • New Office in the Baltics – Strengthening our regional presence, WFO has expanded into Northern and Eastern Europe, with Filip Piotrowski leading the charge as our Baltic Sea Region Manager.

  • SURPASS Project Advances – The latest MultiNanoLayer film research promises to revolutionize recyclable packaging, a critical step toward a more circular economy. WFO actively contributed to the 5th and 6th SURPASS Consortium Meetings, further driving innovation in sustainable materials.

  • COP16, COP29, and G20 Summits – Waste Free Oceans was actively engaged in global discussions, tracking commitments to marine protection, circular economy policies, and sustainable waste management solutions.

  • New Website Launching January 2025 – Get ready for a more interactive and user-friendly platform, designed to better showcase our projects, partnerships, and ways to get involved!

As we step into the new year, WFO remains dedicated to expanding clean-up initiatives in Africa, Central America, and beyond. Our commitment to scaling up waste interception projects and advocating for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policies will remain at the forefront of our efforts.
